Appointment of Franz Ruch as Adviser to the Governors and member of the MPC

The South African Reserve Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Franz Ruch as an Adviser to the Governors, effective from 1 October 2026.

As part of his appointment, Ruch becomes the seventh member of the SARB’s Monetary Policy Committee.

A seasoned economist, Ruch brings his vast monetary policy expertise to the position. He joins the SARB from the World Bank, where he served as a Senior Economist and led and contributed to research, technical analysis and writing for various publications, most notably the organisation’s Global Economic Prospects report.

Prior to the World Bank, Ruch worked in the SARB’s Economic Research Department, where he developed and operated economic models and contributed to the Monetary Policy Review.

He has a PhD from the University of Stellenbosch and a Master’s degree from Oxford University.
