The innovation introduced last year of issuing,in conjunction with the Bank's Annual Accounts and the Reports of the Board and the Auditors, a relatively detailed analysisof economic conditionsin South Africa, met with a favourable reception. This has encouraged the Bank to issue its second Annual Economic Report covering the period 1961/62 which,it is hoped, will prove to be of equal interest. As mentioned in the Directors' Report for the past financial year, the offices of Governor of the Bank and Chairman of the Board have, for the time being, been separated. In consequence, the observationsand comments on current economic conditions and prospects, which the Governor formerly made to Stockholders at the Annual General Meeting and to which this Report serves as a background, will be delivered by the Chairman.
