Statement issued by the South African Reserve Bankon the Gold and Foreign Exchange Reservesof the Bank as at 31 July 1998 4 August 1998 The Bank's provisional gross gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to R32,6 billion as at 31 July 1998, compared to R33,4 billion as at 30 June 1998. The utilisation of foreign credit lines at the end of July 1998 amounted to R18,5 billion compared to R17,0 billion at the end of June 1998.The outstanding oversold forward book of the bank was US$25,2 billion at close of business on 31 July 1998 compared to US$25,3 billion on 30 June 1998.The Bank has not intervened in the spot foreign exchange market since Friday 3 July 1998.Any possible changes to these preliminary figures will be reflected in the Bank's monthly Statement of Assets and Liabilities to be published on Tuesday, 11 August 1998.
