The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) today published its Gold and Foreign Exchange Reserves Management Investment Policy (Investment Policy). The publication of the Investment Policy signifies the SARB’s objective to improve transparency around its reserves management operations and to align itself with global best practices. The objectives of the Investment Policy are to define the approach and framework governing the management of reserves. The Investment Policy outlines the governance structures, roles and responsibilities pertaining to reserves management operations. Moreover, the Investment Policy provides a strategic framework for the SARB’s reserves management operations and specifies, among other things, the risk parameters of the SARB for the management of the reserves and the eligible asset classes.
