The services of Mr EM Kruger as Registrar of Banks terminated on 31 July 2011. The SARB has already embarked upon a process of identifying a potential candidate for appointment as Registrar. The position of Registrar is a statutory appointment in terms of the Banks Act and requires the approval of the Minister of Finance. It is, however, foreseen that the finalisation of the process will take considerable time. Accordingly, for purposes of the continuous effective functioning of the Office for Banks, the Bank has designated Adv Michael Sidney Blackbeard as Registrar. Advocate Blackbeard is one of the Deputy Registrars and his appointment as Registrar will be until a permanent appointment is made, or 31 January 2012. Adv Blackbeard joined the Bank in 1992 and has been Deputy Registrar since 2006.
