The South African Reserve Bank will launch a new website on Saturday 2 April 2011. The Bank’s current website was developed in 2001 and has been central to the Bank’s efforts to carry out its mandate and conduct business in an open and transparent manner. Technological advances, however, have made upgrades, the introduction of enhancements and new functions difficult and, consequently, the website is not as user-friendly and effective as it could be. Moreover, the search facility does not work optimally. The SARB recognises the growing importance of access to timely and quality information. The new website, therefore, features improved navigation and the content under the tabs housing the SARB’s core functions, viz. monetary policy, financial stability, reserves management, research, banknotes and coin, regulation and supervision has been revised and updated. The new website will be a great improvement in terms of content, function and graphic design, and will further enhance transparency, accessibility and accountabilty to the public. The Bank's news alert service has also been revamped. Subscriptions are not going to continue automatically though. All subscribers to the various categories of information posted on the current website have to subscribe anew. The SARB will be seeking to improve the website continually and, in this regard, visitors’ comments are welcome.
