The Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, Mr Tito Mboweni, will tomorrow (Friday, 1 November 2002) be appointed Honorary Colonel of 1 SA Tank Regiment by the Minister of Defence, Mr Mosiuoa Lekota. The inauguration ceremony is due to take place at the Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein tomorrow afternoon. The appointment of Honorary Colonels is an established tradition in the South African National Defence Force. Any prominent citizen of the Republic of South Africa interested in the preparedness and well-being of the South African National Defence Force and a unit in particular, may be appointed as its Honorary Colonel. The appointment is purely titular and does not grant military authority to the person appointed. "I am honoured to be appointed Honorary Colonel and to be associated with 1 SA Tank Regiment," Mr Mboweni said. ​
