The Year 2000 Banking Response Centre is pleased to announce that every one of South Africa’s 57 registered banks has reported that all systems are operating normally in the new Millennium.Since no Year 2000 related problems have been experienced and everything points to an absolutely seamless transition, the Y2K Banking Response Centre will cease operating on a 24-hour basis as from 17:00 on 1 January 2000. Key staff will however be available on call through the Response Centre telephone number (012-313 4420 or 012-313 3456) until 17:00 on 3 January 2000 at which time the Response Centre will cease to operate. We wish to thank the media for their valuable contribution to managing public perception over this time. We would also like to thank the public for the responsible and level-headed manner in which they handled the Millennium rollover.
