South African Reserve Bank

Domestic Responsibilities

The Bank derives its mandate from the Constitution. In terms of inflation, South Africa has adopted a flexible inflation targeting regime. The Minister of Finance sets the target (currently a band of 3% - 6%) and the Bank has instrument independence in how to achieve this goal.

The Minister of Finance announced in 2010 a broadened, explicit mandate for the Bank, to include financial stability.
