Prizes 

All teams taking part in the Monetary Policy Challenge will receive certificates for participation, merit or distinction.
 
The prizes for 2017 was as follows:
 
1st Place – R8 000 per learner, total of R 32 000 for the team. An ipad for each learner and educator . The school received R20 000.
 
2nd Place – R6 000 per learner, total of R24 000 for the team and R15 000 for the school
 
3rd Place – R4 000 per learner, total of R16  000 for the team and R 11 000  for the school
 
4th Place – R3 000 per learner, total of R12 000 for the team and R 8000 for the school
 
5th Place – R2 000 per learner, total of R8 000 for the team and R6000 for the school

6th Place – R1 500 per learner, total of R6000 for the team and R5000 for the school

7th Place – R1 500 per learner, total of R6 000 for the team and R 5000 for the school

  

Members of the winning team will have their names put forward to receive South African Reserve Bank bursaries. Should they go on to meet the criteria to be awarded a Reserve Bank bursary, the full costs of their undergraduate degree (up to R75 000 per year), including tuition, accommodation, books and sundries, will be paid for.

 

The winning team, along with their Economics teacher for their region, will travel to Pretoria to spend the day on Thursday, 21 September 2017 at the Reserve Bank. They will be special guests of the Bank and will be able to watch the Governor deliver the Monetary Policy Statement. During the day, they will also have lunch with senior decision makers and see first-hand how economic theory is put into practice.
