The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has appointed three deputy registrars in the Bank Supervision Department. Yvette Singh, Madoda Petros and Michael Blackbeard will assist Errol Kruger, the Registrar, in supervising and regulating the banks and banking system. Both Ms Singh and Mr Petros have been appointed as Deputy Registrar: Analysis; and Advocate Blackbeard is Deputy Registrar: Support. The appointments came into effect from 1 April 2006. Ms Singh holds a Master of Business Leadership and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree from the University of South Africa (Unisa). She has been with the Bank Supervision Department since 1995. Prior to her current position, she was head of one of the analysis divisions within the department. Before joining the SARB, she worked for First National Bank. Mr Petros holds a B. Comm-degree from the University of Fort Hare and the Advanced Taxation Certificate from the University of South Africa. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1983. Before joining the SARB in 1996 he held the position of General Manager Finance at the Eastern Cape Development Agency. He joined the SARB as Senior Manager in the Bank Supervision Department and prior to his current position was Divisional head of one of the Analysis divisions. Adv Blackbeard has been with the SARB for just over fourteen years. He holds the B.Iuris- (cum laude), LLB- and LLM- degrees from the University of Pretoria. He started his career as a Public Prosecutor at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. He practiced as an advocate until the end of 1991 when he was appointed as Head: Investigations of the SARB’s Bank Supervision Department.
