South African Reserve Bank

Investment Policy

In accordance with its role as a central bank and the South African Reserve Bank Act 90 of 1989 (SARB Act), the official gold and foreign exchange reserves (reserves) of the Republic of South Africa are held and managed by the SARB. The Investment Policy, which is approved by the Governor’s Executive Committee, defines the approach and framework governing the management of reserves and specifies the high-level risk parameters. The FMD manages these portfolios under the guidance of a Deputy Governor within the reporting structure of the SARB.
