Rules 

The rules for all participating teams are as follows:

  • Teams must have a maximum of four Grade 12 learners, with one learner being nominated to act as Governor.
  • All members of the MPC team must be studying Grade 12 Economics or Accounting. 
  • All members of the MPC team must be fulltime learners at the school which they represent in the Challenge.
  • The Grade 12 Economics teacher is required to accompany finalist teams to the finals in Pretoria on 12 July 2013.
  • Other students at an entering school can help the entering team research and prepare the Monetary Policy Statement but only team members can present at the finals.
  • Entering teams are allowed to use data from any source, i.e. teams are not limited to only using data made available by the Reserve Bank, but all information obtained from other sources must be clearly referenced.
  • Teams must base their decision on data that pertains to the forecasting period of the Challenge, i.e. 18 February  – 12 April 2013.
  • Team members cannot be changed during the competition.
  • All team members must also be present at the finals and be available to answer questions following the team presentation. These requirements will only be waived in exceptional circumstances and with the prior agreement of the Bank.
  • Employees and relatives of employees of the South African Reserve Bank may not participate.
