Message from the Governor
Page Content Dear Reader,
The global financial crisis, which is now in its fifth year, continues to create fresh challenges for central banks. This is true not only for policy implementation, but also for our thinking about how the economy works. The crisis has challenged us to broaden our minds, and revisit long-held beliefs in traditional and commonly accepted theories.
The South African Reserve Bank College (SARB College) plays an important role within the Bank in stimulating thinking and learning about these developments, and strives to ensure that learning programmes are relevant to the current environment. Through various high-level specialised seminars, discussion series and the biennial conference, the SARB College will contribute to current debates on issues of concern to both policy-makers and academics. Some of these courses will be presented by international experts in collaboration with international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Institute, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), and the Toronto Centre.
The learning and development programmes are open to all central bank officials and other interested parties, whether from the private or public sector. In line with the Bank’s ongoing commitment to the region, the SARB College is particularly committed to sharing its expertise with countries on the African continent.
The programmes offered by the SARB College, as set out in this prospectus, should cater for a wide spectrum of learners. We look forward to welcoming you in Pretoria.
Gill Marcus
