Application process and administrative information
South African Reserve Bank (Bank) employees who wish to apply for particular courses should obtain prior approval from their supervisors. Supervisors will approve the nominations in the same way as leave applications.
The South African Reserve Bank College Prospectus is sent to the training representatives in the various departments of the Bank at the beginning of each academic year. In addition, it is published on both the Bank’s Internet and Intranet web pages. Course participants should apply on the Bank’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Learning Management Module for a particular course. The following steps should be followed:
• Go to Learner Self-Service
• Then to Learner Home
• Browse Catalog (right-hand side)
• Choose and click on a Category (the majority of SARB College courses will be in the
category: Central Banking)
• Click on the relevant subcategory
• Click on Course Name
• Click on Offerings: Offering Name (left-hand side of the screen)
• Click on name of course
• Go to Enrol (yellow suitcase symbol on the right-hand side of the screen)
• Complete Enrolment Justification (in this instance it would, for example, be JobRequirement)
• Click on Review
• Complete Comments to Approver (who is your line manager in this instance) and motivate
why you are attending the course
• Submit and await confirmation.
Other central banks, and financial, academic and public institutions
Applicants from other institutions are welcome to attend the SARB College’s learning programmes. The SARB College may be contacted for further details regarding the application process. Contact details are on page 52 of this prospectus.
Language medium of tuition
All courses are presented in English.
Course duration
A normal course day is from 09:00 to 16:00, which includes lunch and tea breaks. Certain high-level specialised courses may go beyond 16:00. The SARB College wishes to emphasise that participants are expected to attend the course for which they are registered for its entire duration.
Costs
Central banks
The SARB College does not charge central bank officials tuition fees. However, accommodation, travel and per diem allowances, and airport transfer costs are the responsibility of the sponsoring central bank.
Private institutions, universities and government departments
The SARB College will charge a nominal fee to cover the costs of the course material, conference facilities, meals and refreshments. The details can be obtained when applying for courses (see contact details).
Location
The SARB College is located in the Pretoria Central Business District (road map available - see contact details).
Accommodation
There are many reputable hotels and guest lodges available within the surrounding area of the SARB College. The SARB College may be contacted for further details regarding a list of the above-mentioned. Please note that it is the delegates’ responsibility to make their own accommodation and transport arrangements which would be at their own expense (see contact details.)
Security
A 24-hour security service with access control and undercover parking bays is available.
